Yes, yes, I know. Lee Pace has eyebrows that one could stand on and not fall. They're a dark color when the rest of his Thranduil was a beautiful blonde. But you know what? He's a good enough actor that he completely sold PJ's version of Thranduil and made me forget the caterpillar eyebrows. And in The Battle of the Five Armies, he was so very much a wild, wily, sly, conniving Elvenking - not necessarily an evil one (which would have pissed me off royally) but rather just a very unpredictable, changeable and self-assured one that believed absolutely in his royal privilege. In this version of the character, I could definitely see an Elf who defended his kingdom without the assistance of a magic Ring of Power - an Elvenking who deserved the respect he expected.

He also wielded a very mean sword.

And that war-moose. Gotta love the war-moose. :-D

A few spoilers, under the cut for those who want to avoid them )

All that to say that seeing the movie yesterday gave my Muse a punch in the arm, and so she sat me down and helped me finish one of my WIPs that has been languishing for quite a long time. I'll post the first chapter of it when I finish with this.

But I also just wanted to say that, despite the flaws I listed under the cut, it was still a VERY good movie. I'm glad I went to see it, and I want to see it again - as much to drool over Lee Pace's Thranduil as anything else.

The last couple of days have definitely proven interesting. I've been to see The Hobbit (and in 3D, after promising myself I'd only try 2D,) learned that my "almost-not-quite-officially-adopted" son from Tennessee is gonna spend a couple of weeks with us over the holidays, and finally finished the application for health insurance required by the ACA.

All kinds of yattering under the cut )

So... The days ahead seem full and busy, even for folks like me who don't celebrate Christmas at all. I play the piano at Halcyon this Sunday, then Christmas Eve service, and then the next Sunday too. This Sunday, I have my piano/organ duet cohort Nashoma with me, which is a treat (she's 81 now, and has nerve damage that sometimes makes playing quite difficult for her.) I have two (count 'em) fishtanks that need serious maintenance. I have several large meals to plan.

It should keep me out of the bingo parlors, eh?

Happy Holidays, f-list! Have a great time, and stay safe!

...and thoroughly enjoyed it. The faster projection speed didn't faze me, and I was very satisfied with the 3D effects.

More Review under the cut - SPOILER WARNING )

I'll be waiting with baited breath for next December's installment of the tale. The last scene was the perfect cliff-hanger!!

All in all, a very satisfying movie - and I was steeling myself to be disappointed. So now I can relax and just fan-girl until the EE is available on DVD. :-D
