A Note To My Fellow LOTR fanfic writers...

I have no idea if you have been using LOTRFF as your archive, but you should be aware that it has been sold to someone who wants to turn it into a for-profit enterprise. Aside from the obvious violation of the "Fan Fiction is a NOT-for-profit activity", and/or the potential mine-field involved in a tussle with the Tolkien Estate over the revenues, I personally have a great deal of trouble with the idea that this guy essentially intends to make money for HIMSELF through the use of MY hard work.

Note that I speak up, and that I'm less than happy about his plans.

I have deleted all my stories from LOTRFF, as I hadn't posted to that archive in a while (long story - in essence, I got reamed for not responding to a review as quickly as the reviewer wanted me to) and so feel this as not much of a loss. But some of my friends have used LOTRFF as their main archive for years.

Just thought you all should know. FanLib kerfluffle, Take Two, anybody? :-p

Sounds like FanLib Part 2 to me and if this guy doesn't think Christopher Tolkien won't be all over him like there's no tomorrow then he's either delusional OR he's been living under a rock! Glad I don't have anything on that site!

Thanks for spreading the news. What floors me is the similarity to the Fanlib incident and this guy's making reassurances that don't line up with the arrogance in his statements on his blog and in interviews. WTF?

Good riddance LOTRFF. It was nice while it lasted. I don't foresee that site remaining for more than the kiddos for very long. They can look foward to tons of 100 Ways to Piss off the Fellowship stories...

Unfortunately, LOTRFF is one of the two places I post most frequently and one of the main/secondary spots for my MEFA stories. I don't want to change the forwarding and I haven't found another location where I want to post yet. When I do, then I'll pull my items out and move over.
