[livejournal.com profile] engarian posted the following meme, which was too interesting to pass up:

Age:
Old enough to know better, definitely too old to really worry about it.

Myers-Briggs (if you know it):
I've done the quiz a number of times, but do you think I can remember the results?

How long have you had your LJ:
Since May, 2008.

What does your username mean:
Aeärwen means "Daughter of the Seas". I thought it appropriate, inasmuch as I live on the Central California Coast and have a deep and abiding love of the ocean and everything to do with it. If I'd been an Elf, I'm sure I would have been one of Cirdan's folk, to be honest, despite my love for the Elves of the Greenwood.

What is your favorite thing about LJ:
Being able to keep in touch with so many varied and talented people all in one place - without the distractions that come on other social media sites like FaceBook. I like seeing other folks' writings, and I love the comments that come when I post some of my own.

What is your least favorite thing about LJ:
In a word: interface. I am continually reminded that I'm still using the same interface that I used when I first started, and that I should change and then play around with the settings in the new one. No thanks. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

What is your motivation on Live Journal?:
To keep up with friends and have a place to either post my writings or my rantings. Occasionally I even do a proper blog.

Have you ever met anyone on your F List in real life?:
Nope. However, I have a voice-level relationship with a couple of my friends here, [livejournal.com profile] jkahane and [livejournal.com profile] engarian mostly. I've spoken to [livejournal.com profile] sykira a few times, and I used to IM constantly with a number of others who have fallen mostly silent of late.

Do you have a paid subscription? Is you LJ private/friends only?:
Paid.

Where do you live:
Central California Coast, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Also known as "Paradise".

Do you have an accent?:
I have an odd combination of Western from my years here in California, along with a smattering of Midwest traces left over from living the first 10 years of my life in Little Siberia (aka. Minnesota.)

Who do you live with:
My Hubby, my oldest twin JJ (learning disabled), and my eldest daughter who rents the small apartment that used to house my parents.

Do you have pets?:
I have a Bengal cat who rules over us all, and a fish tank (thanks to JJ) that holds 1 angel fish, 1 golden gourami, 10 assorted tetras, and a huge proclastimus (glass-cleaner, bottom scrounger.) Daughter Súl has a dog - a cross between a pitbull and a catahoula (sp?) named Callie.

Do you/Did you go to school:
I have an BA in Spanish, which has served me well before I had kids in getting jobs that required bilingual skills. Had I not gotten married and moved away, I would have had a double MA, one in Spanish and the other in Linguistics. Languages are my passion, and my avocation.

Do you work?:
Not anymore. I'm in my 60's, so I'm of retirement age to begin with, and issues with knees and joints that simply don't want to work much at all even make housework extremely difficult. Before Kids (BK) I worked at the local community college, running the media laboratory for foreign language students and tutoring in a number of subjects. I'm also a musician, however, so my volunteer "work" is mostly in that field nowadays.

Where/What do you do:
Nowadays I spend my time either practicing the piano to play for services at a local spiritual community, arranging music and then either directing or accompanying singers in a small performing company at that same community, or else I'm writing either original or fan fiction on the computer.

Do you have more drama at home or at work?:
I don't work outside the home, and there is a real lack of drama at home - neither I nor my hubby NOR my daughter appreciate drama much at all.

Who do you often write about?:
Depends. If I'm writing LOTR fanfiction, as a rule, I write cross-cultural stories that include Elves and Men. If I write Dr. Who fanfiction, then generally it's about the 10th Doctor and Donna (the best companion he ever had, IMHO.) If I'm writing original fiction, however, I have a number of characters that I play with: Davina, a girl who slowly discovers her skill as a sorceress; Peter, who ends up finding a new home on a new world among very interesting people; Adiél, a princess who's been kept isolated - until now; and a few others.

What else should readers know:
I'm not shy, but I usually don't post much unless I genuinely have something to say (or find memes like this one that are just too much fun to resist.) My stories tell a lot about my attitudes about a number of things. I'm open for discussions anytime, and I do answer questions - provided the questioner is ready to receive an honest answer.

That's it - those are my answers. If you're interested in participating, just cut & paste, and then type over my answers with your own. This one doesn't take a whole lot of time, and is kinda fun.

Excellent memeage! SO sorry for the delay in responding, I'm staying with family and the precious precious wifi access is either sludge-slow or nonexistent!
