I just have to share the wonderful curio cabinet that my hubby has built to hold the bulk of my remaining Orient doll (etc) collection. Solid oak, mirrored back and bottom, glass shelving, and drawers big enough to not only hold extra sofa pillows and fleeces, but any games that would otherwise not fit in our games drawers in the pantry.

With this, my living and dining room is complete.

His next project is a "jump box" for daughter Súl's crossfit training exercises. After that, I think we're going to tackle either the bathroom or the kitchen, as both need some serious repairs and/or upgrades. Comes with living in a 100+ year old house that hasn't seen renovation since the 70's...

Aearwen, it's absolutely stunning! He did a great job! And it goes so well with the smaller one above your piano that he did a year or so ago. Your dolls look fantastic highlighted in their new home and I have total drawer envy (love the handles too). Lucky, lucky you!

Yea, he did a fantastic job. Since he got the shop cleaned up (my dad was a pack-rat, and the shop before Hubby took it over was an absolute MESS) and started putting in serious time out there building furniture for me and others, he's done nothing but get better and better. Did I ever post a pic of the game table he built to hold my glass chess set? I'll have to check...

The handles were Hubby's idea - and he played around with different kinds of wood to get the layered effect. It was my idea to carve out a small depression so fingers would have something to hook onto. The handle to the curio cabinet has depressions on both sides.

I am very lucky indeed. And Hubby's SO much happier puttering outside in the shop in the mornings, trying to dream up new projects to make for others.

How beautiful! He does lovely work, and you have a nice collection!

Also, I suspect we have those same (or similar) plates! Where did you get them from? Are they a particular collection, because they really look familiar. ^_^

Thanks. Yes, I'm proud of my collection - which spans this cabinet as well as the one over my piano that I think I posted a while back.

That is an Imari plate and bowl set that I got from a fleamarket for a mere pittance. From what I can gather, they are collector's items, but I just love the composition and color use.

Thanks. And considering that this ended up being a birthday present to beat just about all others, I couldn't not share. :-)
