Rip-roaring, torrential rains pounding the roof for nearly a half hour and making it sound like a train is coming, lightning waking up JJ at 5AM, so he comes and wakes ME up at 5:10AM to tell me about the lightning (and I, who had stayed up until almost 2AM when my Muse suddenly got "inspired" to continue with IDD) just said, "That's nice. Go back to bed." and then tried to go back to sleep.

Did I sleep?

Not immediately. I ended up timing the lightning/thunder gaps to find out how far away they were (they were almost consistently 7 - 10 miles away.) Dropped off maybe 20 minutes later to the sound of the downpour only to wake up at 7:25AM (5 minutes before I'm supposed to get up to get to coffee on time) to discover we had enough of a power outage to knock all the digital clocks wonky. No harm to my computer, however - and I made sure it stayed that way by unplugging the thing when it started to thunder again as I was getting ready to go out the door.

Needless to say, the energies stirred up by this little nature's temper tantrum were "interesting". (And yes, I'm being diplomatic.) Our normal, quiet coffee house environment was rudely invaded by a non-profit women's roller derby team's business meeting. They took 3/4s of the seats in the house and then proceeded to talk money. The rest of us customers were relegated to attempting to find something else to look at and/or listen to. A couple of kids were complete brats - one insisting on dragging his chair all over the place. I honestly wanted to reach out and smack the DAD who let his little monster/darling do as s/he pleased.

Writing-wise, I've been productive. IDD is coming along, as I said, and I finished a one-shot story too. I'm gonna sit on the story for a bit before submitting it to LC grooming, and I'm hoping to finish the IDD chapter either today or tomorrow.

But I need to start thinking of a few housekeeping chores I've been putting off - as in I need to seriously go thru and/or clean out the "Guest Bedroom"/storage room in preparation for son Squeek's visit starting next Saturday. I'm very much looking forward to him being here. Mostly, anyway.

But thanks to the rain, all the walnuts on the ground need to be picked up ASAP and put in the racks if they're to dry at all - or else rake them up and toss them before they mildew. And pray that we get no more rain, or we'll lose the entire crop. Grapes on the vine won't be too badly damaged, I hope - altho mildew could wipe that out too. Crumbs!! I need to call those who requested grapes and tell them to get their butts over here and pick what they want before things go south!!



I have piano duties tomorrow morning - prelude and playing hymns only, so no biggie. I'm sleepy - I definitely need more than five and a half hours of sleep (less the loss when JJ woke me up.) I'd nap now, but I need to be at Súl's salon in a little less than 1½ hrs. And I can't handle caffeine anymore - bothers the digestion at night. I guess I'll just have to yawn my way thru the day and get to bed early tonite.

Hugs and hopes for sleep for Aearwen. I know you'll do marvelously tomorrow so I won't worry about that at all. Your coffeehouse experience sounds truly horrific, though, so that I don't envy you with at all.
