So many of the male Elves in Tolkien's legendarium are tragic characters. Although his testing doesn't come until virtually all of the Lord of the Rings is finished, Celeborn is no less tragic for being so terribly torn between remaining at Galadriel's side and remaining in the land that he loved and had protected for so long. He is a very quiet, patient Elf who has been growing on me steadily for a while now.

Celeborn gazed sadly down into the heart of what had once been a bustling Elven capital. Already several of the mellyrn were failing, including the one that sheltered his home. Time had once more found Calas Galadhon, and it was not kind.

Taking a deep breath, he turned his mount. In a line that stretched back into the trees of the city, the remaining Galadhrim sat or stood, waiting for his signal.

He would not look back; she was not there. Only dreams and memories remained. He gave the signal and slowly led his people towards Imladris, and the future.

Moving On

How sad to see this, but he is a brave elf to go on - I find it remarkable he didn't fade from grief at losing yet another home...but then he goes home to Imladris, and would (possibly) see Ivoreth, his granddaughter once more? Or am I being presumptious (sp) in thinking that this is before the story in question? It comforts me to think that is what happens next...I love a happy ending, even though some stories (and real life) doesn't always end that way. And I did love this tidbit very much!

I can't wait to see what you write next week! :D

Vanime
