And here's yet another drabble in my I Dhaerlend Dadui timeline.



Elrond shuddered as Frodo presented the Ring to the Council. The last time he'd seen it, it had hung on the end of a chain of gold around Isildur's neck; weregild, the Mortal had claimed.

And yet whispers at the back of his mind insisted darkly that the Ring should come to him; his King's death was no less a grievous loss than that of a Mortal father!

It is mine. Think of the good I could do…

Elrond hadn't listened to whispers long ago; he wouldn't listen now. "We must send the Ring to the Fire,"* he declared firmly.

* Quote taken directly from The Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring, "The Council of Elrond"
