Hmmm, interesting to pick Boromir for this one. I presume that the Chariot refers to a "drive" or being "driven", as in a direction of sorts. Boromir is being driven by many things here on this journey, not the least of which is the One Ring inticing him to take it, and of course, that it's what his father would have wanted him to do.
Poor Boromir, driven by so many things until Frodo wore the Ring and ran away - leaving Boromir to finally find something else to be driven by, to protect the Hobbits, Merry and Pippin from the Uruk Hai. It was that final drive, I think, that saved Boromir from falling into the darkness forever. JMHO.
