I'm embarrassed that it took me to almost half way through the story to figure out who Wendel actually was.
Dipping into the philosophical here. (sorry) One of humanity's problems is that we have a very difficult time with the concept of long term planning. Hard work and frugality pay of later. Procrastination and greed pay off now. I wonder if our perspective would be any different if short term interests could be balanced by those with very long life spans?
