Aearwen's Little Bits - Fresh Start

For what it's worth, I have actually written one new drabble since my complaint last week that I still hadn't tried. I'd like to think I could do more - but I'm being nice and letting my Muse rest after she gave me a whole novel (all 40k words of it) in less than two weeks.

Next week I'll start expecting more of her.

And this week's drabble is being posted especially for pandemonium_213, after I mentioned it in a message and she said she hadn't seen it. Too late, I remembered that the only place I'd ever posted this was in the writer's workshop that I walked away from some months ago.

Writer's Block: Clock Punching

My first job was in an industrial laundry, feeding either a "spreader" (a gizmo designed to take wet, crumpled sheets and open them up so that they could be fed into the ironer) or the "ironer" itself (another huge machine, probably about 20 feet long and very, VERY hot that literally pressed wet items between super-heavy rollers filled with steam.) My dad was the mechanic there, and got it for me when I was 17 as a summer job. It was hot work, mind-numbing - but it was a paycheck.
