Most of you folks here don't know that I spent a good five or six years writing heavily for The Pretender under the author name of MMB - mostly during the years I was taking care of my mom while she spent 3hrs 3 times a week on hemodialysis. I produced several novel-length pieces, most of them fairly complex of plot, during that time - and they were generally well received in the little fandom.

However, the time did come when producing a minimum of 2k words/day (self-imposed minimum) burned me out - and just about the time my parents began dying off, my Muse left me utterly. In the process, she left a very complicated novel unfinished at the point approaching the major climax and denouement stage. She didn't reappear in my life for a good two years - during which I went through the grief process for both parents dying within months of each other.

And when she returned, she'd found LOTR. The Pretender was history - or so I thought.

Just for shits & giggles, I broke down and read thru' my unfinished novel - entitled "Dead Man's Switch" - a few days ago. Lo and behold, my Muse, who has been bouncing between O-fic and Doctor Who, sat up all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and said, "OOOOOOOOOoooooo!!! That's really not bad at all! We really should finish that, you know..."

So now I have a Maple file with the dangling plot threads that need resolution, all my OCs and any info on then that remains pertinent to the story (and any descriptions, so I don't pull any continuity faux pas.) And I've managed to finish the chapter I pooped out on, and have about 2k words on the next chapter already written. AND I'm starting to dream scenes.

I can't believe it. A story I abandoned over five years ago has suddenly taken over my Muse - and she's positively ecstatic over it.

*deep sigh*

Just when you think you have things all worked out, something like this happens to remind you that it's the Muse that runs the show. You're only along for the ride.

And all my nice plans for today are blown to Hell when I stepped on a piece of wood and drove a nice splinter deep into my heel. My DH tried to get it out - and failed. All he got were splinters off of the bit buried practically all the way under the callous on my heel. Soooooo… no shopping trip to SLO for needed supplies, no chiro appointment (because DH was digging at the spot with his knife and a pair of tweezers to no avail) and no new neon tetras for the big fish tank in the living room to keep the one sole survivor out there company.

Damn!

Happy Monday, f-list, she growls…

Ouch! Maybe you should have gone to your Chiro and had him get the splinter out!

My Mother died suddenly and unexpected, then a few months later, on my birthday no less, my Dad was given 8 weeks to live. I "lost myself" for a couple of years, so I believe I can relate to how you may have felt during that time and all I wanna say is *HUG-TIGHT*

So I am concluding your muse returning is a happy/good thing? If so this pleases me to no end. :D
